Working together, with trust and respect, to make a difference

Are you a public health consultant who is passionate about prevention in primary care?

Public Health Wales is the national public health institute in Wales employing over 1,800 people.  Each part of our organisation plays a huge part in contributing to the seven priorities of our Strategic Plan, and as part of our contribution, the Primary Care Division is looking for an exceptional individual with drive and ambition to lead the prevention in clinical settings portfolio, embedding prevention into public health and primary care practice, and to contribute to the transformation programme for primary and community care across Wales.

This is a unique opportunity for a skilled, experienced Public Health Consultant who wants to make a difference to population health and integrated primary care services in Wales.

This is an exciting time for transforming the health of our population in Wales. With the world leading Well-being of Future Generations Act and the national strategic vision for prevention as set out in A Healthier Wales, Wales has a legislative and policy environment to drive forward evidence based preventative approaches to address the key clinical and behavioural risk factors that contribute to the burden of disease in our nation. The ability to deliver evidence based preventative approaches to health and care has never been more important.

This leadership role offers an excellent opportunity to experience work at a national level supporting the development and implementation of policy aimed at transforming primary care to take a population focused approach, supporting prevention work and reducing inequalities.

You will have responsibility for leading the public health primary care prevention agenda at a national level within Wales, aligning action across the system in conjunction with our Local Public Health Teams based at Health Board level and the 64 Primary Care Clusters in Wales. You will be working closely with the Director of Primary Care, Consultants in Public Health, senior colleagues within Public Health Wales and will develop effective networks with colleagues in partner organisations.  You will also contribute to the delivery of the national Strategic Programme for Primary Care, leading work within the prevention and wellbeing work stream, overseen by the National Primary Care Board.

As the successful candidate, you will have a successful track record as a consultant in Public Health/Public Health Medicine, with demonstrable achievement, and experience of public health practice at a senior level. You will have experience of developing work in a primary and community care setting, and a good knowledge of current primary care developments. You will be able to demonstrate highly developed influencing, negotiation and motivation skills to drive transformational and large scale change across organisational boundaries within the primary care system in Wales.
