This is a fixed term post until 31/03/2021, due to covering current post holder's secondment.  

If you are an Public Health Wales employee this post will only be offered on a secondment basis and you will need to have gained your line managers approval for the secondment prior to going to interview.

Building on our strengths, and working closely with wider partners, we are transforming our services to deliver a world-class service for the prevention, management and control of health protection threats.

To complement our existing teams, Public Health Wales is seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic Public Health Specialist to the post of Consultant in Communicable Disease Control / Consultant in Health Protection within our Health Protection Division. This post is available at 1.0 WTE on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2021.

Public Health Wales

Public Health Wales is the host organisation which includes the Health Protection Division as part of its Public Health Services Directorate. Established in 2009, it provides expert public health advice in relation to disease surveillance, prevention and control; environmental hazard surveillance and control; child protection; promoting health and well-being; health, social care and well-being strategies; public health policy and healthcare planning.

Other functions of Public Health Wales include; child protection, promoting health & well-being, health, social care & well-being strategy, public health policy & healthcare planning.

The Health Protection Division of Public Health Wales provides surveillance of communicable disease and environmental hazard exposures, prevention and control of infectious disease, environmental public health services and laboratory services in Wales. As part of the team you will provide specialist advice and input on a range of health protection issues, leading on the response to outbreaks and incidents in the community or healthcare settings as required.

The local work of the national Health Protection teams support the seven Health Boards across Wales in discharging their statutory responsibilities for health protection, and work closely with the Directors of Public Health. In addition, and by agreement with the Professional Lead for Health Protection, you will have the opportunity to support a defined portfolio area working on an all Wales basis.

Candidates must be included on the GMC Specialist Register in Public Health, Microbiology or Infectious Diseases Medicine, or UK Public Health Register for Public Health Specialists.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
